Cabling conditions in Somerset West

Somerset West has some of the strongest home-solar uptake in the Western Cape. Retirement villages, golf estates and hillside homes in the Helderberg basin have added inverters, batteries and roof panels, creating steady work for DC cable, battery cable and properly rated isolators. Closer to the Strand and Gordon's Bay, sea spray and the summer south-easter shorten the life of outdoor fittings, so UV-stable sheaths and corrosion-resistant glands make sense. Estates usually run their own internal reticulation, and body corporates call in contractors to fault-find old underground runs. Supply comes from the City of Cape Town, which sets its own rules for embedded generation.

Boxed 100 m rolls of 2.5 mm twin and earth cable and coils of red and black house wire

Typical 2.5mm electrical cable requests in the area come from:

Solar and backup power: solar installs use 2.5 mm cable for dedicated essential-load plug circuits off the inverter
Homeowners: homeowners wire extra plug points, kitchen circuits and garage plugs in 2.5 mm cable
Complexes and body corporates: complexes add plug circuits to units and clubhouses during renovations and upgrades
Coastal properties: coastal homes use 2.5 mm cable indoors, with sealed outdoor sockets and fittings
Builders and developers: builders order rolls of 2.5 mm surfix and house wire for every unit's plug circuits
