Cabling conditions in George

George is the commercial hub of the Garden Route, and its electrical work reflects a mix of town, forest and coast. High year-round rainfall means cable joints, junction boxes and outdoor connections must be properly sealed, and damp clay in places makes trenches heavy work. Thunderstorms rolling off the Outeniqua Mountains bring lightning risk, so surge protection and good earthing matter on homes and farms. The airport, hospital and retail centres need commercial cabling, while new suburbs and lifestyle estates keep builders buying surfix and house wire. Holiday homes at Herold's Bay and Wilderness face salt air and need corrosion-resistant fittings.

Typical armoured cable requests in the area come from:

Homeowners: homeowners bury armoured cable to gate motors, outbuildings, garden lights and pool pumps
Builders and developers: developers trench armoured cable from mini-subs to each erf on new estates
Shops and retail: shopping centres feed tenant boards with four-core armoured cable on cable tray
Coastal properties: coastal properties need a sound outer sheath and corrosion-resistant glands against salt air
Farms and smallholdings: farms run armoured cable over long distances to boreholes, irrigation pumps and sheds
