Cabling conditions in Port Elizabeth

Gqeberha is South Africa's motor-manufacturing capital, and vehicle plants and component suppliers in Kariega and the city create large demand for industrial cable, tray and busbar systems. The Coega special economic zone and the deep-water port at Ngqura add new factory and logistics builds. Nelson Mandela Bay is known as the Windy City, and constant salty wind off Algoa Bay corrodes outdoor connections in Summerstrand, Walmer and along the beachfront. The metro supplies most of the city, and cable and copper theft have hit municipal lines hard. Many homes and businesses have added solar to cope with outages.

Typical XLPE cable requests in the area come from:

Factories and workshops: factories use XLPE cable for transformer feeds and large motor supplies
Coastal properties: coastal plants choose sealed sheaths and protected terminations against salt and moisture
Homeowners: large homes and estates use LV XLPE cable for long, heavily loaded main supplies
Solar and backup power: large solar plants feed transformers and MV switchgear with XLPE cable
Municipal and public works: municipalities use 11 kV XLPE cable between substations and ring main units
Offices: office blocks run XLPE risers and main feeders to busbar chambers
